All short films at the festival are eligible for this award, which comes with a $250 cash prize, and is determined by a jury of local filmmakers, writers and journalists who specialize in horror, sci-fi and fantasy cinema.

JOSEPH O'BRIEN is an acclaimed horror and science fiction writer and producer, and has worked in television (Robocop: Prime Directives, Papertrail), comic books (Hoverboy, Revolution on the Planet of the Apes - nominated for a prestigious Shuster Award) and magazines. He is a regular contributor to Rue Morgue and Fangoria, and his short horror fiction appears in the award-winning anthologies Queer Fear and Queer Fear II, hailed as "essential" by genre legend Clive Barker.

MICHAEL SPARAGA is the writer and producer of the award-winning Canadian superhero film SIDEKICK, co-starring Daniel Baldwin. A film festival circuit audience favourite, Sidekick will be released on DVD by Maple Pictures this November. Michael is currently busy writing the screenplay for his follow-up film, FOOTPRINTS, a Bigfoot-themed horror-comedy, as well as directing an hour-long documentary on the Canadian film industry.

STUART ANDREWS is the host of two acclaimed radio shows dedicated to cult and horror cinema on CKLN FM and RUE MORGUE RADIO and has interviewed many of cinema's greatest living legends. He also writes about film in his Abbreviated Terrors column for Rue Morgue Magazine, spotlighting some of the planet's most innovative horror shorts.
