SYNOPSIS
NIGHTMARE DETECTIVE director Shinya Tsukamoto is a giant among fans of cult and underground film – his industrial body horror masterpiece TETSUO: THE IRON MAN still as potent and disturbing now as it was the day it was shot. And while NIGHTMARE DETECTIVE may be his version of a mainstream film, a loving ode to the supernatural mysteries he adored as a child, it’s still unmistakably a Tsukamoto film through and through.
Kyoichi Kagenum is cursed by a gift. Able to enter and manipulate other people’s dreams Kagenum has become a sort of urban legend, a man with talent sought out by those in distress. Those plagued by their own hidden torments regard him as a sort-of savior, someone who can enter in the minds and break the hold of their subconscious. The process of doing so has left him numb and antisocial, but when a young detective suspects that a series of mysterious deaths are homicides somehow carried out through the victims’ own subconscious minds, Kagenum is forced into service to find the killer…
Filled with shocking imagery and obsessed with the darker side of the human soul, this is one NIGHTMARE that will burrow deep.
