Synopsis
Gambir has it all. A beautiful wife, a lovely home and a thriving career as the hottest young sculptor in Jakarta. But darkness lies hidden just beneath the surface of Gambir’s seemingly perfect life. His wife forbids him entry to part of his own home, his artwork hides a truly horrific secret, and cryptic notes from an unknown supplicant begging for his help lead Gambir to a secret society paying for made-to-order violence watchable on closed circuit television. Fusing elements of film noir with Park Chan Wook’s icy precision, touches of the Lynchian surreal and sharp, sudden shocks of extreme violence THE FORBIDDEN DOOR is a compelling head-scratcher of a picture.
