Toronto After Dark’s Film Lineup gets RAVE Reviews in Today’s Papers!
One day before the festival kicks off and the advance reviews are in and it’s official, Toronto After Dark Film Festival’s 2008 lineup of movies is our best ever, winning rave reviews today from the critics at Toronto’s most widely read newspapers for entertainment, NOW, Eye Weekly and The Toronto Star!
OPENING GALA FILM AND TOKYO GORE POLICE SCORE BIG!
NOW gives a perfect 5-N score to the Swedish vampire film LET THE RIGHT ONE IN which it describes as “stunning” with “amazing performances.” THE TORONTO STAR gushes over the film as being “first-rate”, while EYE WEEKLY also delivers our opening gala flick a top 5-Star rating! TOKYO GORE POLICE is another film that makes a big impact on reviewers. NOW digs the film’s bloody mayhem calling it “so insane it defies hyperbole” and EYE chimes in with a “spectacularly disgusting” review.
OUR ACTION AND CULT FILM SELECTIONS A HIT TOO!
But it’s not just the horror flicks at Toronto After Dark scoring well. Our award-winning Chilean super-hero action flick, MIRAGEMAN is also a big winner with the critics, with EYE describing it as “superlative” with “plenty of ONG BAK-inspired action”. NOW calls it “quite simply the best superhero movie you’ve never heard of” with “way more heart” than Spider-Man or Batman. Meanwhile THE TORONTO STAR raves about our cult comedy pick WHO IS KK DOWNEY? as being “a hysterical satire of hipster culture”, and EYE has a blast with the flick too, calling it “enjoyably vicious.”
READ ALL ABOUT IT!
You can read all the reviews in today’s (Thurs, Oct 16) printed editions of the papers available at newstands, or online at these direct page links to NOW Magazine, Eye Weekly and The Toronto Star which also spotlights celebrated animator Bill Plympton on this page, whose feature IDIOTS AND ANGELS plays this weekend at the fest.
