2010 Fest Wraps Up with Record Crowds, Rave Reviews, and a Big Win for Eli Roth’s THE LAST EXORCISM!
AUGUST 26: Toronto After Dark Film Festival 2010 wrapped up eight thrilling nights of new horror, sci-fi, action and cult movies last week blazing new cinematic trails and setting new records! A new high of over 9,300 enthusiastic fans attended the festival which ran Aug 13-20 at the city’s legendary Bloor Cinema, over double the size of our event of just four years ago!
BIG SCREENINGS, BIG WINNERS!
Highlights of the 5th Annual Edition included our first-ever red carpet premiere, for THE LAST EXORCISM with acclaimed horror filmmaker ELI ROTH in attendance, a freaky Closing Gala experience in the form of THE HUMAN CENTIPEDE, and a shocking but well-received remake of the notorious I SPIT ON YOUR GRAVE, which won Gold, Silver and Bronze respectively in our Audience Choice Awards. The festival also premiered in Toronto HEARTLESS, a stylish and riveting demonic thriller from cult British filmmaker Philip Ridley which was awarded Gold by the fest in the Best Independent Feature Film category. Silver and Bronze honours went to crowd-pleasing creature feature THE LAST LOVECRAFT and the dark horror comedy ALL ABOUT EVIL respectively. Visit our Festival Awards Page for the complete lowdown on all the awards given out by fans and the festival this year including winners in our Short Film categories and new this year, the Fans’ Choice Awards featuring such fun categories as Best Kill and Best Fight!
A FUN-PACKED 5TH YEAR!
Toronto After Dark received record rave reviews from fans and critics alike for the films we selected this year, but it wasn’t just about the movies! Over 15 attending short and feature filmmakers came on stage to introduce their works or host lively Q&As with fans, including Eli Roth. Festivalgoers were also treated to a ‘Gore Couture’ Costume Contest, a bizarre interview with a Killer Tire, a Human Centipede reenactment on stage, and a series of warped “Festival Bumpers” playing in front of the features, all depicting the number 5 in unusual ways to celebrate the fest’s 5th edition! Toronto After Dark also played host to a number of packed nightly social events, and of course treated the city’s undead to a cheap night out with our ever-popular Zombie Appreciation Night! We have put together a single page at our site with links to all the event pictures and video clips from our 2010 festival here.
