Toronto After Dark Film Festival is one of the world’s leading showcases of new horror, sci-fi, action and cult films. The critically acclaimed annual event, now in its 6th Year, brings attention to thrilling new movies from around the world, including many award-winning features and shorts. The 5th Annual Festival, which ran August 13-20, 2010 was attended by a record 9,300 enthusiastic film fans and over 100 members of press and industry. In a poll of local filmgoers, Toronto After Dark was also voted Runner-Up for Best Film Festival in the City. For the 6th edition, responding to popular fan demand, the festival returns to its original place in the calendar just before Halloween. The next Toronto After Dark runs for eight thrilling nights, October 20-27, 2011 at the Bloor Cinema, Toronto’s legendary cult movie theatre, revered by visiting filmmakers including Quentin Tarantino, Kevin Smith and Edgar Wright.

Year round, Toronto After Dark Film Festival, also promotes the city’s vibrant horror, cult and alternative film scene to over 10,000 followers on email, facebook and twitter. The festival also co-presents the genre films of Toronto’s highly regarded HOT DOCS, REEL ASIAN and WORLDWIDE SHORTS Film Festivals to name a few.  To get Toronto After Dark’s updates of thrilling cinematic events in the city, be sure to sign up for updates here:

Toronto After Dark is a proud member of the prestigious North American Fantastic Film Alliance (NAFFA) which recognizes only the top six world-class festivals out of over 50 genre film fests on the continent. Our widely respected sister festivals in NAFFA include Austin’s Fantastic Fest, the Los Angeles ScreamFest and Montreal’s Fantasia Film Festival. Programming of a film by a NAFFA festival is seen as a huge badge of quality. Many short and feature films which screen at Toronto After Dark are also amongst the selections of other world-class film events including the Sundance, Cannes, SXSW and Tribeca Film Festivals.

Toronto After Dark Film Festival theatrically showcases new, innovative, independent and international thrilling films in front of local audiences that would otherwise rarely get the chance to see these movies on the Big Screen. To get a good flavour of what Toronto After Dark is all about, we suggest you watch the short three minute clip below featuring highlights from one of our previous festivals:

Please note a correction to one line spoken in the video: Toronto After Dark does indeed program both International and Canadian short films.

As well as championing independent genre films at our festival, during the rest of the year Toronto After Dark promotes new genre films released by distributors in the city.  Some of the high profile film companies we have teamed up with on releases include: Alliance, Anchor Bay, Dimension, E1, Fox, IFC, Lionsgate, Magnolia, Maple, Mongrel, Sony, Starz, Universal, Weinstein and Warner Brothers. We are especially proud of the success stories we have had with independently-produced films premiering at our festival going on to receive theatrical and video releases with major distributors.

Every year Toronto After Dark Film Festival also sets new records for the outstanding media coverage we generate for the films that screen with us. Over the past five years the festival and its film program have been featured in more than 150 media outlets across Television, Print, Radio and the Web including Ain’t It Cool News, Bloody-Disgusting, CityTV,, Fangoria, Filmmaker Magazine, The Globe and Mail, Inside Entertainment,, MTV, NOW, Rue Morgue Magazine, Showcase TV,  The Space Channel, Toronto Star, and Twitch Film many of which also sponsor the festival. Filmmakers also benefit from our extensive online network, with over 10,000 fans receiving updates from our Email Newsletter, Facebook Group, Facebook Page and Twitter Feeds.

Toronto After Dark also brings thousands of film fans together during the festival to meet up outside of our screenings.  We co-present the annual Toronto Zombie Walk which takes place during the festival, and host packed nightly social events including our popular gala parties and pub social nights.

We regret that Festival Screenings are Restricted by Ontario Provincial Law to Adults Aged 18 Years And Older. Festival parties and pub nights restricted to 19+. The Toronto Zombie Walk is an all-ages event.
