***TORONTO AFTER DARK 2011 UPDATE**
Winner, Fans Choice Award for SCARIEST FILM - Toronto After Dark Film Festival
This Film’s Screening at Toronto After Dark had MANY REVIEWS, read them here.
It’s the final days of operation for the century old Yankee Pedlar Inn, a modest New England hotel with a long history of paranormal activity, and her last two employees Luke (Pat Healy) and Claire (Sara Paxton) are determined to find proof that ghosts are indeed haunting the halls. Writer/director Ti West cemented his mark on the genre world with his love letter to early 80’s Satanic paranoia flicks in THE HOUSE OF THE DEVIL, and there’s a similar slow build of tension and dread in THE INNKEEPERS. What’s added to the mix here are the fantastic performances of our two amiable leads, their conversations and easy going yet sometimes awkward relationship often leads to great laughs, and distracts us in the best kind of way in between an ever increasing sense of terror that is waiting just behind the next door. Throw in Kelly McGillis (STAKE LAND) as a card carrying spiritualist for good measure and you’ve got a film that remembers why we love haunted house stories in the first place.
