NOVEMBER 21, 2012: That’s a Wrap! Toronto After Dark Film Festival wrapped up its thrilling 7th Annual showcase of new Horror, Sci-Fi, Action and Cult Movies last month at the beautifully restored Bloor Hot Docs Cinema in Toronto, Canada with over 10,000 enthusiastic attendees taking in screenings and events during a record nine-night run over Oct 18-26!
FESTIVAL HIGHLIGHTS INCLUDED ZOMBIE APPRECIATION NIGHT, THE TWISTED TWINS ON STAGE AND A SPECIAL INTRO FROM SIMON PEGG!
Highlights of Toronto After Dark 2012 included the sell-out Canadian Premiere of the hit new British zombie comedy COCKNEYS vs ZOMBIES with over 700 screaming fans, many in costume as part of the festival’s annual Zombie Appreciation Night, comedic actor Brian Posehn (SARAH SILVERMAN SHOW) in attendance along with a horde of Live Action Role Players for the Toronto Premiere of LLOYD THE CONQUEROR, the scintillating Soska Sisters (aka The Twisted Twins), on hand for the Canadian Premiere of their acclaimed new horror-thriller, AMERICAN MARY, and a crowd-pleasing closing night video intro specially recorded for Toronto After Dark by fan favourite Simon Pegg (SHAUN OF THE DEAD. HOT FUZZ, STAR TREK) for his new film A FANTASTIC FEAR OF EVERYTHING.

THE NEW FESTIVAL TEE BY GHOULISH GARY BECOMES A SELL-OUT COLLECTOR’S ITEM!
Another huge hit with fans this year was Toronto After Dark’s specially commissioned limited edition 2012 t-shirt design, ‘Bloor After Dark’, illustrated by the award-winning local artist Ghoulish Gary Pullin, best known for his years of incredible design work on the acclaimed magazine Rue Morgue. Fans can read the story behind this unique tee design here. Although the tee sold out in record time, fans can look forward to another new design from Gary for our 2013 festival!
THE DARKCADE, INAUGURAL INDIE VIDEO GAME SHOWCASE, A BIG HIT!
Another new initiative for Toronto After Dark 2012, was the launch of our first-ever Indie Video Game Showcase, THE DARKCADE. Tying in thematically with the main film festival, over 50 new horror, sci-fi. action and cult indie video games were submitted and the best 18 were showcased, two a night, during the course of the fest at our popular after-screening nightly social event, Pub After Dark.
COCKNEYS VS ZOMBIES, AMERICAN MARY THE BIGGEST AWARD WINNERS!
In the awards stakes, Genre comedies won audiences over at Toronto After Dark 2012 with the crowd-pleasing British gangsters meets zombies action comedy COCKNEYS VS ZOMBIES winning the festival’s Top Prize, the Audience Choice Award for Best Feature Film, GOLD. In the Specialty Categories, the big winner was the stylish surgical horror thriller AMERICAN MARY from the Soska Twins which won 6 Awards including Best Director, Best Actress and Best Canadian Feature. RECORD PRESS COVERAGE & INDUSTRY DEALS!
Films screening at Toronto After Dark 2012 also benefited from the over 100 press and industry representatives in attendance. The result was a new record, a staggering 500-plus published reviews and editorial pieces for our 20 feature films, 29 short films, and the festival overall. Even more importantly for our selected filmmakers, multiple sales deals to distributors occurred around and during the festival itself!
