Short Description
In this fascinating dark fantasy with shades of SILENT HILL and THE MIST, two bus crash survivors awake to find themselves the only people left in a deserted small town. Even worse, they only have a limited number of days left to solve the mystery of their predicament, as a dark black cloud is advancing from all sides, and within its mist are some hostile creatures!
The Buzz
“Monstrous creatures, the walking dead, alternative dimensions…. in common with Rod Serling….the SF and horror here come thoroughly grounded in character.” - Little White Lies
“An assured directorial debut with imaginative ambition, and a heart at its centre.” - The London Film Review
“Complex, haunting and thoroughly satisfying” - Joblo.com
Official Selection - London FrightFest
SYNOPSIS
A boldly heartfelt dark fantasy, Ryan Smith’s AFTER is a breath of fresh air in indie genre-filmmaking. We meet Freddy (Steven Strait) and Ana (Karolina Wydra) on a bus, heading home to the small town of Pearl where they are virtually neighbours, though they have never met. After the bus crashes and they’ve clearly spent many weeks in the hospital they attempt to resume their lives… the trouble is, seemingly everyone in town has disappeared. Freddy and Ana meet up once again, trying to figure out what has actually happened to them, and why a dark cloud, with creatures within it, is seemingly engulfing the entire town. AFTER takes a relatively standard premise and creates an intricate narrative of how the past affects our future. Like the great Amblin films of the 80’s, as much thought and care is put into the emotional journey of the characters, as there is to the fantastic creature design. You’ll care what happens AFTER.
- Steven Landry
