Toronto After Dark 2012 - First Films Announced!
August 30, 2012: Toronto After Dark Film Festival is thrilled to officially unveil its first wave of exciting film announcements for 2012! Included in the lineup are some of the most critically acclaimed and eagerly anticipated horror, sci-fi, action and cult films from this year’s international film festival circuit. These (Updated) 9 new movies will all have their Toronto or Canadian Theatrical Premieres hosted exclusively at the festival’s 7th Annual Edition this October 18-26, 2012 at the city’s historic Bloor Cinema. Fans can preview all 9 individual trailers to the films at a newly created Youtube Playlist, which includes a fun one-minute sizzle trailer featuring highlights from all 9 films.

REC 3: GENESIS (Spain) Canadian Premiere!
An official selection of the SXSW Film Festival, the latest instalment of the hit Spanish zombie movie series relocates the action to a lavish wedding where the guests - including the bride wielding a chainsaw - try to survive a terrifying outbreak of the undead! Trailer Poster

A FANTASTIC FEAR OF EVERYTHING (UK)

LLOYD THE CONQUEROR (Canada)
A crowd-pleasing fantasy comedy about three male college students who are roped into battle with Derek the Unholy, a dark wizard who is determined to hold onto his title as champion of the Larpers. DOOMSDAY BOOK (Korea)
Winner of Fantasia Film Festival’s Best Film Award, this trio of apocalyptic tales features the rise of sentient robots, a zombie virus outbreak and an asteroid on a fatal collision course with earth. SUSHI GIRL (USA)
A reunion dinner for a gang of vicious criminals reopens old wounds with deadly consequences. This stylish, ultraviolent crime film in the mould of Tarantino’s RESERVOIR DOGS features a genre cast to die for including Tony Todd (CANDYMAN), Michael Biehn (TERMINATOR), Danny Trejo (MACHETE), Sonny Chiba (KILL BILL) and Luke Skywalker himself, Mark Hamill! UNIVERSAL SOLDIER: DAY OF RECKONING (USA) Canadian Premiere!
Packed with extreme, ultraviolent fight scenes and hard-hitting action, the newest chapter of the Universal Soldier movie series has received fantastic fan reactions on the festival circuit. Action legends Dolph Lundgren and Jean-Claude Van Damme unite as leaders of a renegade army of soldiers and its up to Scott Adkins (the rising action star from EXPENDABLES 2) to track them down and defeat them. *PLEASE NOTE: (Sept. 27 Update): Due to its Home Video release date being moved up in the calendar to before our festival dates, one of our original early announced films, EXCISION, was regrettably withdrawn from the festival, leaving nine films from our first wave in the final lineup. On a good news note for fans, Toronto After Dark will therefore be announcing 11 MORE FEATURE FILMS, and not just ten, in our final wave as well as 29 fantastic short films from around the world. We can’t wait to share all these amazing films with you!
11 MORE MOVIES TO BE ANNOUNCED AT THE END OF SEPTEMBER!
(Updated) 11 more exciting feature films, a collection of cutting-edge short films, and the complete festival schedule will be announced at the end of September. Shortly after that time, fans will also be able to buy single tickets to all screenings. Fans interested in seeing a bunch of films at Toronto After Dark 2012 are encouraged to snap up one of the festival’s popular All-Access Passes before they’re all gone. The passes, which sell out early every year, give priority entry to all 21 screenings at the fest along with a huge discount off buying regular tickets, and are available at the festival website here.
