Toronto After Dark - Horror, Sci-Fi, Action & Cult Film Festival Announces Cineplex Entertainment as New Venue Partner

Toronto After Dark Film Festival, the city’s premier annual showcase of new horror, sci-fi, action and cult movies, is thrilled to announce a new partnership with Cineplex Entertainment, Canada’s leading film exhibitor.

For its 8th Annual edition, which runs this October 17-25, 2013, Toronto After Dark will screen all its films at Scotiabank Theatre Toronto, in the heart of downtown.

“I’m a huge fan of Cineplex and Raven Banner Entertainment’s Sinister Cinema program,” states Toronto After Dark’s Festival Director and Founder Adam Lopez. “Since its launch, Sinister Cinema has enabled fans to see a fantastic slew of cutting-edge independent genre movies, including an official Toronto After Dark selection, on the Big Screen in theatres right across the country. The participating filmmakers and fans I’ve spoken to have been ecstatic with the results. And it feels like a natural fit now for our film event - which has always been about championing these kinds of thrilling independent films to the largest audience we can - to embrace a partner that equally gets it. This partnership is not just a Win-Win but a Quadruple Win for the fans, the filmmakers, the venue and our festival!”

In addition to the convenience of the festival’s new central location, attendees can look forward to a huge new benefit in the ability to earn SCENE points on every festival ticket purchase.

“Filmmakers screening at Toronto After Dark will also benefit from the heightened profile that comes with having their independent films shown at the same venue in the city where many big studios have their Red Carpet premieres!” adds Lopez

Beyond 20 amazing film screenings over nine nights this October, attendees can also look forward to lively Q&A’s with visiting filmmaker guests, the ever-popular Zombie Appreciation Night where fans who dress up get a discount on tickets and Pub After Dark, the popular nightly after-screening social event (this year at The Office Pub) where fans get to mingle with filmmakers over drinks.

And there’s even more good news for movie goers planning to partake in some cinematic thrills at Toronto After Dark this October. The festival will be priced more affordably than last year, with individual tickets on sale from late September when the full lineup of films are announced, priced at just $13 per screening with additional discounts for students. For the ultimate festival experience, fans are encouraged to treat themselves to one of the festival’s best-selling ALL-ACCESS Passes, which gives fans priority entry to all 20 Screenings over nine nights in October. Only 200 Festival ALL-ACCESS passes will be available for purchase at just $143, saving a monster 45% off buying single tickets. ALL-ACCESS Passes will be on advance sale from Cineplex.com by early August, and as in previous years, they are expected to sell out early.  Especially as this year they will come with a major added bonus for movie fans: each pass purchase will earn 2,000 SCENE Reward Points, which can be exchanged for two free tickets to any regular Cineplex movie screening!

One final exciting new piece of news for fans this year, is that Toronto After Dark will be hosting two special one-off spotlight screenings, on August 29 and Sept. 26, both Thursdays at 7.30pm at the festival’s new venue, Scotiabank Theatre Toronto. “There’s just too many awesome films to cram into our main festival,” adds Lopez “So we’re going to be spotlighting a couple of fantastic films in the run up to October, that I think fans will really enjoy! The titles will be announced nearer their screening dates. For now be sure to put the screening dates in your calendar as you won’t want to miss them!”

Toronto After Dark Film Festival is one of the world’s leading showcases of thrilling genre cinema, screening new horror, sci-fi, action and cult movies over nine exciting late October nights in the city, in the run up towards Halloween.  Now in its 8th year, the festival has grown to become a signature event in Canada’s largest city, enjoying an annual attendance of over 10,000 enthusiastic film fans and over 100 members of press and industry. The festival has been critically acclaimed as One of the Best Events to Attend in the City by numerous media outlets, including City TV, The Globe and Mail, The Toronto Star, Toronto Life, Metro News, Toronto.com and NOW Magazine to name a few.
