THIS YEAR’S FORMAT: As a pandemic precaution, the 15th Annual Toronto After Dark: Horror, Sci-Fi & Action Film Festival running this Oct 13-17, 2021 will be an all-virtual event, Toronto After Dark At Home with all 12 awesome movies this year available to watch right across Canada via a Video on Demand (VOD) streaming service, powered by the Eventive platform.

NEW MOVIES RELEASED ON DEMAND DAILY DURING OCT 13-17! Although none of the screenings will be live events, we will spacing out our movie on demand releases across each of the five days of Oct 13-17.

With an average of 2-3 movies added a day, by the final day you will have 12 thrilling different screenings to choose from and watch - but hopefully you will have begun watching them sooner! Once you begin watching a movie you’ll have a flexible 36-hour watch window to watch, stop and rewatch as much as you like.

THE HANGOVER meets THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE with 2021 Toronto After Dark's bloody, funny crowd-pleasing opener from Kazakhstan! Everything goes to hell, when three clowning around buddies head off into the woods for one last fishing trip before one of them becomes a dad. Instead of peace and quiet, these three jokers soon find themselves on the run from a brutal mob of psychopaths, including a one-eyed man with a knack for killing his victims in the most painful of ways!

THURSDAY, OCTOBER 14 - 2 MOVIES RELEASED ON DEMAND!

ALIEN ON STAGE (U.K.)

Directors - Lucy Harvey & Danielle Kummer
When an amateur acting troupe made up of British bus drivers challenge themselves to mount a stage production of Ridley Scott's ALIEN, calamity ensues! This endearing and funny documentary follows these unlikely space truckers, as they adventure from their tiny ramshackled suburban stage to the prestigious West End London Theatre, with their adorably innovative tribute to the sci-fi classic film we all know and love.


POST MORTEM (HUNGARY)

North American Premiere. Director - Péter Bergendy
After surviving a near death experience during World War I, Tomás, a young photographer, ends up taking pictures of the dead and being drawn towards the paranormal. It's not long before a young girl invites him to investigate her small village, which is being afflicted by a series of ghoulish hauntings. Billed as Hungary's first ever true horror film, POST MORTEM is definitely one of the spookiest films in the Toronto After Dark lineup this year!


FRIDAY, OCTOBER 15 - 3 MOVIES RELEASED ON DEMAND!

KING KNIGHT (USA)

Director - Ricky Bates Jr.
Toronto After Fan fan favourite director, Ricky Bates Jr. (SUBURBAN GOTHIC, TRASH FIRE, EXCISION), returns with his latest horror-comedy, led by his ever-charming and usual collaborator, Matthew Gray Gubler (CRIMINAL MINDS). Gubler stars as Thorn, the High Priest and hapless leader of a Californian modern-day coven of misfit witches, dealing with an identity crisis. Full of razor-sharp wit, this off-the-wall pagan comedy is an quirky delight not to be missed. The fantastic ensemble of co-stars includes genre icons, Barbara Crampton (JAKOB'S WIFE, RE-ANIMATOR) and Ray Wise (ROBOCOP, TWIN PEAKS)!

NIGHTSHOOTERS (U.K.)

Canadian Premiere. Director - Marc Price
When an independent film crew accidentally witness a gruesome double murder in the derelict building they're shooting in, they find themselves in a fight for their lives. They will have to survive until morning against a ruthless group of gangsters out to kill them one by one. Part hardcore action, part dark-comedy, this crowd-pleasing British blend of THE RAID and SNATCH is a thrilling treat from start to finish!

DITCHED (CANADA)

Director - Christopher Donaldson
This tense, survivalist siege horror gives a thrilling update to the John Carpenter cult classic, ASSAULT ON PRECINCT 13, complete with a scintillating synth score! After their ambulance crashes into a ditch in the forest, a group of survivors led by Melina, a young Inuit paramedic, find themselves surrounded by a mysterious group of brutal killers intent on their deaths.


SATURDAY, OCTOBER 16 - 3 MOVIES RELEASED ON DEMAND!

SEOBOK (SOUTH KOREA)

Director - Lee Yong-ju
In this riveting, glossy sci-fi action thriller from South Korea, a special forces agent (Gong Yoo, star of the 2016 smash-hit and Toronto After Dark Official Selection, TRAIN TO BUSAN) is put in charge of protection of Seobok, a strange and gifted young man, who is human kind's first-ever successful clone. As Seobok apparently holds the key to immortality, it's not long before the duo find themselves in a fight for their lives, on the run, hiding from a group of armed mercenaries.

THE FREE FALL (USA)

Canadian Premiere. Director - Adam Stilwell
In this terrifyingly claustrophobic and psychological horror thriller, Sara (NARCOS's Andrea Londo) wakes from a coma to discover a life in a house, with a husband (X-MEN's Shawn Ashmore) and a maid (Jane Badler, 1983's "V" mini-series) she doesn't remember. As her amnesia begins to fade, the chilling truth to her homelife begins to be revealed. A creepy treat from the executive producer of GET OUT, accompanied by a haunting score, composed by Joseph Bishara (MALIGNANT, THE CONJURING films, the INSIDIOUS films). Alas we have no official trailer for this brand new film, but trust us, it’s awesome!


SUPER Z (FRANCE)

World Premiere. Director - Julien de Volte & Arnaud Tabarly
Join us for the World Premiere of SUPER Z, a bloody, hysterical zombie action comedy from France that will be sure to have fans of the undead screaming, "BRAINS!" with delight. A family of 'super-zombies' escape from a secret experimental lab, and unleash mayhem on the countryside as they feast on the locals. It's not long before a group of mercenaries are brought in to help, and an over-the-top, bloody battle between the undead and the living ensues!


SUNDAY, OCTOBER 17 - CLOSING DAY - FINAL MOVIE RELEASED ON DEMAND!

PAUL DOOD'S DEADLY LUNCH BREAK (U.K.) CLOSING GALA FILM

Director - Nick Gillespie
Toronto After Dark closes with the 2021 SXSW award-winning, dark and twisted revenge comedy that is not to be missed! KILL BILL gets the live-streaming treatment as Paul Dood (TOM MEETEN), a hapless man whose reality show dreams wind up crushed, then decides to use his lunch break to wreak bloody revenge on everyone who recently made his life miserable. Murder and social media fame ensue as Paul becomes infamous! With a wealth of British talent involved, both behind and in front of the camera (SIGHTSEERS, KILL LIST, PREVENGE and LOVE ACTUALLY), fans are in for a treat with this bloody and funny dark tale from director Nick Gillespie. Alas, there's unfortunately no trailer available, but trust us, there's a reason we chose PAUL DOOD to sign-off on our 2021 edition with this stand-up and cheer, crowd-pleaser!
